The thought of hiring an interior arranger or designer may sound intimidating, but hopefully I can address some of the most common misperceptions about designers and answer some of the most common questions I hear.

Why hire an interior arranger?

By shopping through your home’s inventory and searching your closets, cupboards, trunks and basements for long-forgotten accessories, my creative design expertise will turn your design problems into exciting new possibilities. Pitchers, baskets, bowls, quilts, small rugs, etc., all have the potential to add color and texture to any corner of your room. You can have a brand new look without spending the money for a full-scale renovation.

How do I know if I could benefit from an interior arranger?

  • Does your home truly reflect who you are… your personality? Your lifestyle?
  • Are you comfortable in every room in your home?
  • Do you love all the furnishings and elements in your home or do you have some
things that you dislike but continue to hold on to?
  • Are you proud of your home?
  • Do you have a room that feels either too busy or too sparse?

If you find yourself asking these questions, give me a call.  We can talk through your unique challenges and discuss ways to work together that will fit your budget and timeline.  Remember that decorating is a fluid process that is never completely finished.  Your needs will change with the seasons, your family situation (new baby, frequent overnight guests, empty nest/rooms), and with new purchases you make for your home.  Therefore, don’t feel like you have to dive in with the goal of changing your entire home
immediately.  Start small if you are hesitant, and see how happy you are with a smaller investment first.  Build upon your creation whenever the mood strikes you or you have a specific need.

Is interior arranging expensive?

Not at all! Your home is your biggest investment; think of the amount of time you and your family spend in it. I work within or under your budget.  In some cases, dramatic transformation can occur with just a few hundred dollars.

My design services start at $250 and go up from there based upon your needs and the number of hours estimated to complete the job.  I will always give you an estimate up-front.  Feel free to call me for more information regarding my fee structure.

I want to redecorate my home, but I would rather save the money in “rearranging” and put it toward new furnishings.

By first rearranging your home, you may find out that the piece you wanted
replaced is exactly the piece you will want to keep after your arrangement is
completed. The same furnishings you may become tired of take on a whole new
look once they are creatively arranged with other pieces already located in
your home.

I have a huge assortment of accessories but don’t really have a “style.”
Will my makeover still look good?

Over the years, a typical homeowner accumulates a lot of cherished possessions (gifts from friends and family, shopping finds, collections from garage sales and flea markets, and souvenirs from your past vacations). Without realizing it, you have already developed your own personal taste and style. It is how these furnishings and accessories are placed throughout your room that creates a truly completed look. What is most important and makes your design style uniquely different from everyone else is that your home reflects your personality.

Don’t designers try to influence you with their style when decorating?

During our consultation I will ask you many questions. My service provides homeowners with a creative and objective approach to decorating— whether it’s totally changing or updating your overall color or style, decluttering or minimizing overcrowded areas, creating new and exciting focal points, or in some cases recycling old furniture rather than throwing it out. After listening closely to you and your family’s wants and needs, I implement your style and pull together everything in your room to make it functional, fun, and looking brand new!

What differentiates you from other designers?

I take the greatest amount of pleasure helping clients realize their own style and the true potential of their home and belongings. Many designers create entirely new looks by purchasing all new items for a room.  However, I prefer to work within the boundaries of a client’s budget and existing furnishings, for this challenges my artistic abilities and allows me to be truly creative and innovative.  The result I hope to achieve is a client that
is amazed and pleased by the new combinations and displays of their favorite items.

Do I have to have high-quality, designer furnishings before I can hire an interior
designer?

No.  In fact, many clients I work with do not have showcase homes.  I can work with your existing furnishings and use them in artistic ways that will help to give you a designer look without the luxury prices.  You can find great elements to use in your home at stores such as Cost Plus and Target, just as easily as in designer showrooms.  Best of all, if your style changes frequently or you tire of items quickly, you will not be making a huge investment in any one item if you decide to get rid of it after a few years.

In fact, the items you currently own and your existing style is a good starting point for our conversation about what you like and what you’d like to change.
